I bought this book on impulse without expecting much and so was very pleasantly surprised. I've yet to see another picture book that introduces the notion of adult fallibility with such sweetness and humor. Miss Malarkey, stepping in as soccer coach, endures some rather poor behavior from parents, and boy, does she show them! My daughter loves the comeuppance, as well as the the fact that some of the humorous dialogue takes place in balloons over the characters' heads. (Your child IS going to be exposed to comic book formatting someday. Isn't it best that YOU be the one to introduce it?) Kids spend their young lives having to obey adults and take as given that they know better. Miss Malarkey makes it a lot easier to take.

I have bought all of the Miss Malarkey books for my six year old grandson. We think they're hillereous. This book is the funniest. The soccer parents remind me of my grandson's soccer games and the adults at those games.
