From the title you will notice that this book deals with a very controversial subject. Women don't really like to be told what to wear. However, some women do earnestly desire to please God. They... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Mrs. Handford's book is excellent, I highly recommend it! It really convicted my heart about modest dress.
Good book, proceed with caution...

This book sparked a mini-revolution in my small church - one toward modesty and propriety in dress that drifted toward legalism! Hanford raises many valid points in this book - particularly when it comes to how a child of God should conduct their life in the midst of a perverse and ungodly world. The danger, however, comes when the admonition to dress modestly degrades into a proclamation of "sinful" upon an article of clothing or hairstyle. This book is a great resource and if read with a soft heart, will surely lead the Christian woman to a more deliberate sense of propriety and purpose in choosing what she wears. This is one of the better books I've read on modesty, but keep in mind that while scripture calls for modesty, it does not give us "the letter of the law" for standards. One can certainly read into scriptures (taken from any number of places in the Bible) and develop a "check list" or something similar, but that's not very wise... or true to the principles of Biblical interpretation! Many books - this one included - try to apply the label of Biblical Truth to ideas that are more common sense... i.e., IN GENERAL dresses are a more modest option than pants. However, it is wrong to say that because dresses are a more modest piece of apparel, pants - on the whole are wrong/sin. Recommended.
A solid effort

All in all, a good book. Mrs. Handford did not devote the same care and attention to the biblical instances of public nudity as she did to immodest clothing.
A real eye-opener

I was so glad to finally get a chance to read this book. I had heard such good things about it. Modesty is not old fashioned. God intended modesty to be present in all the generations. This book is a call to renew modesty. I have done a lot of research on this subject of modesty and Biblical nakedness and have found this book by Elizabeth Rice Handford to be most helpful. It has encouraged my heart to "stay by the stuff". I recommend this book to anyone who is truly interested in what the Bible (not tradition) has to say about modest dress. But hold on to your hat-it is very eye opening and will leave you with a greater conviction on your part.
