Leftover Soldier's, The Wild Land, is the third book in the Leftover Soldiers trilogy, after the multi-award-winning Leftover Soldiers, Life on the Western Frontier, (book 1) and Leftover Soldiers, Aftermath & Opportunity, (book 2).
After the final battle of the Civil War in Brownsville Texas, the four main characters: Union soldiers Delbert Beale, Tom Lee Daggart, Sylvie Parker, and Confederate soldier, Boyd Stamps, find work as work as buffalo hunters in the Texas Panhandle.
The ex-soldiers take jobs driving a herd of Texas Longhorns from San Antonio to the new town of Cheyenne, in the Wyoming Territory. Del and Boyd decide the new town, with the proposed transcontinental railroad running, might hold their futures. Tom Lee heads back to San Antonio to be with his girl, Sancha.
The end of the Civil War began an unstoppable rush of Americans and immigrants from all over the world looking for an opportunity for a new life in the West.
