CARY HENDRIX JR. is A FORMER TEACHER and SOCIAL WORKER, who is also A PAINTER, A CARTOONIST AND WRITER. He has SERVED HONORABLY in THE U.S. NAVY and received his BACHELOR of SCIENCE in EDUCATION from WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY. IN 1986, THE DETROIT FREE PRESS featured him in AN ARTICLE about STRUGGLING CARTOON ARTISTS. Over the course of about 10 years, MR. HENDRIX was A WINNER in the weekly DETROIT FREE PRESS CAPTION CONTEST more than 48 times. He has written four books, in 2022 his third book, "IN BLACK AND WHITE," won THE PENCRAFT AWARD and in 2023, THE INDEPENDENT PRESS AWARD. MR. HENDRIX was born in THE JIM CROW SOUTH, and was baptized in ATLANTA by REV. MARTIN LUTHER KING SR. He explores THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE with TRUTH, WISDOM, HUMOR and WIT.
