WRECKS OF AMERICAN WARSHIPS introduces young readers to famous American fighting ships that have been discovered in their watery graves. (Some of those ships have, in fact, been salvaged and on display at various museums). Part of the Watts Library series on underwater archaeology, James Delgado's book is intended for readers 9-12. Delagdo's book runs to 64 pages. Within those pages, he discusses famous sunken warships like the battleship Arizona, the armorclad Monitor, the submarine Hunley, the gunboat Philadelphia and other sunken warriors. He gives a brief history of each and relates the discovery and salvaging of some of those ships. The book is illustrated with vintage and contemporary b & w and color photographs and illustrations. A minor complaint: the underwater pix are pretty poor qualitywise. WRECKS OF AMERICAN WARSHIPS should be an appealing selection for those younger readers interested in famous American warships. Recommended.
