In our era of apocalyptic change, everything from terrorism to a stifling cultural sameness has become globalized. World on Fire is a poet's impassioned, prophetic examination of the human and... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I met Michael Brownstein several years ago at Central Connecticut State University and I have to say he was the most articulately simpatico individual you'll ever come across. His political persuasion is far left mainly because of his environmental views. For you see Mr. Brownstein is an environmentalist, and if I recall correctly he's a member of the Bioneers. So, with that said I feel Mr. Brownstein's book is a pertinent read. Brownstein's book is unique because he inculcates hardcore facts that affect our reality/environment, while creating a fictitious/futuristic apocalyptic world that may become reality if we (the people of the world) don't shift gears and cease the madness, which means destroying our habitat. He manages to accomplish this innovative feat by spinning his tale from a poet's vantage point. This anecdotal book brings to light how we are polluting our air, drinking water, our top soil, and it also demonstrates how we've become a wasteful society and that we need to become true conservatives because conservation is the key to keeping America happy, healthy, and relevant. He also touches on how corporations are irresponsibly destroying our environment, which maybe causing freak weather patterns and diseases. Also, Brownstein quotes many sources such as Noam Chomsky to support his prognostications. Overall, Michael Brownstein propagates that our time is running out (our way of life is ebbing quickly) and we need to stop our avaricious ways and hold our politicians accountable for their crimes against nature and humanity. After reading this book I suggest reading "Crimes Against Nature" by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for even more of a detailed account of this serious issue that plagues us. Michael Brownstein's book will make you ponder about the world we live in, which makes this book worth every penny you'll spend. Everyone should read this book then act upon it because the issues Brownstein explores are detrimental toward a viable future and our survival.

I've read quite a few books pertaining to our planet and this one is by far the best I've ever read. Do whatever you can to get your hands on this book and read it! Amazingly on target and worth reading! If this doesn't wake people up from their current way of living I don't know what will and that scares me beyond words!

The author's honesty and truth about what is happening in the world is most impressive. His depth of thinking and feeling is shocking. Except for Voltaire, no author has given me such an accurate description of good and evil, about who the real devils are in this world. I am proud to review this great book. Almost every sentence deserves to be permanently written and saved in a personal journal. Reading this book has added a great value to my existing knowledge of the external world.I am going to read it for a second time with great pleasure.Brandon
