Joe Labrea's Friday night started out the way they often did, with a dead body. That was understandable, it was part of his job; murders, robberies and the occasional hold-up were his life. The case began in an upscale office park with the shooting of an ambitious entrepreneur and did not initially seem out of the ordinary (hardly a rule-bender) - but it soon became far from ordinary. First, the murder itself wasn't as simple as it seemed and then, complicating matters greatly, Joe falls in love with a suspect (there goes the rule about getting too involved). Then, in clear violation of the rule of self-preservation, he manages to get both shot and kidnapped. He shoots back - several times - but still ends up diving off a cliff in the middle of the night to try and save his life. All-in-all, the whole self-preservation thing was getting a real workout.
