My great, great, grandfather, William H. Patten was born in Nova Scotia, Canada in 1826. His family moved to upper Canada when he was eight years of age. He went to live with a family friend when he was only eleven years old and was on his own from then on. He went on to create numerous businesses including ship building, ship captaining, trading with the Indians and whites. He owned a farm, a grain elevator, a bank, and a retail store and he started the first electric company in Le Sueur, Minnesota. He traveled extensively in the US and Canada and was elected to the Minnesota house of representatives. He was truly a relative to be proud of.
