Life sentences in the UK seldom mean that an offender is imprisoned for life, but what it does mean is that after release they will be on a lifetime license and breaching the terms of that license can mean a recall to prison.
Seldom used and only for the most prolific offenders of heinous of crimes the UK offenders can be sentenced to a whole life sentence, which does what it says on the tin the offender while serving the rest of their life imprisoned and will die in jail.
