Stephen J. Cannell does it again!

I have read every one of his novels. The Shane Scully series is outstanding; great characters, imaginative plots and fun reading. He is a 'gritty' writer with edgey characters. This latest novel has a new character woven throughout who continues to surprise as he suddenly 'pops up'. If you like Stephen J. Cannell you will not be disappointed!
White Sister Review

A typical, fast paced, hard hitting Steve Cannell novel featuring the latest adventures of Shane Scully. Well written and well read. Anyone who has liked the Shane Scully series before this (The Tin Collectors etc) will like this one.
NONPAREIL READING OF TOPNOTCH THRILLER

Detective Shane Scully and his wife, Alexa, are an unlikely but intriguing pair. She's not only drop dead gorgeous but also Director of Operations for the LAPD, and no one would call him good looking. It's best said in his own words: ""It's a miracle Alexa ever agreed to marry me. But then, if Julia Roberts could once marry Lyle Lovett, I guess anything is possible." How can you not like him? Millions do as is shown by the sales of the previous Shane Scully novels. Here's another to enjoy, especially as read on both the Abridged and Unabridged versions by the inimitable Scott Brick. It's been said that Brick is Scully and always should be. How true! With "White Sister" we find Shane and Alexa planning to meet at home in about an hour after she finishes up some office work. That hour more than passes when he receives a call to cover a crime on Mulholland Drive. There he finds a gang member has been killed execution style and his body is in Alexa's car, with no sign of Alexa anywhere. In this, the sixth Scully story Shane is portrayed as a man who'll risk everything, his own life included, to find his wife and solve the murder. However, he's never faced an enemy like this before, one with a devious criminal mind who uses every resource to stay one jump ahead of him. As readers/listeners have come to appreciate, Cannell writes dialogue like few others - well he should as he's the creator of more than forty popular TV series such as The Rockford Files, The A-Team, and The Commish. Enjoy! - Gail Cooke
Best Scully so far!

I'm a big fan of the Shane Scully series, but White Sister is by far my favorite so far! Cannell just gets better and better as he develops his characters and, especially in this novel, really delves into the emotional relationship between Shane and his wife Alexa. I also LOVE the John Bodine character. He's so funny, touching, and at the same time a great example of the poverty issue in Los Angeles. And for those action fans, don't worry, there's a lot of that for you here too! I was surprised by the handle Cannell had on the rap world he chose to write about in this book. He kept it real and raw, and I was impressed. Can't wait for the next one!
The Best Shane Scully Yet

These Shane Scully novels by Stephen J. Cannell just keep getting better and better. The plots are engrossing and paced like lightning, the dialogue and humor are amazing, the characters rich and the milieus fascinating. But what Cannell gives you that other crime writers rarely do is rich, emotional texture. When I read one of his novels, he doesn't just keep me interested in the story... more importantly, he never fails to engage my emotions in a major way. In White Sister, Shane not only has lethal adversaries to overcome while departmental regulations try to rein him in, but his beloved wife, Alexa, is gravely wounded and not expected to live. In addition, she is suspected of a murder, then the suspicions shift to Shane himself, who ends up in jail with a contract out on him. Wondering how Shane will get out of this one is worth the price of the book, but empathizing with him as he contemplates the probable loss of his beloved wife really takes the reader on an emotional sleighride. This is a superb story that's really tough to put down, and if you do, you can't wait to get back to it. I don't know how Cannell does it. If I did, I guess I'd be a best-selling author, too.
