I have nothing but praise for this novel. This writer has truly done his homework. He takes us back to the 60"s with a story of 3 students who are trying to navigate their way through life after high school graduation and all the triumphs and tribulations that follow. Mr. Jefferson medical knowledge is superb and he does not miss a beat while he tells the story with all the 60's music thrown in to set the scene and pace. September, Perry and Bennyboy are natives of LA and after the graduate they must focus on their future. Benny boy and Perry decides to attend Howard so they can complete their studies and become a doctor and don the famous "White Coat". Every girl on campus is lusting after these two because everybody wants to marry a doctor. September who chooses a different path and college to become a nurse so that when they all finish, they will be equipped to operate in their own hospital. September and Bennyboy are lovers but when they leave for college, their lives changes, and such is the focus of this story. Perry is the pretty boy who will bed anything in a skirt, but nothing will stop him from becoming a doctor. September focus on changes and she meet Civil rights Organizer, Cecil Bruckner. They share a great affair but, in the end, there is more drama when someone meets their demise. Bennyboy is a sucker for love, but he is barking up the wrong tree when he encounters the sick and deranged Aiyanna. You must read the novel so you can follow their trails.
This novel is very different from most but Mr. Jefferson is an excellent writer but his books are hard to find and not cheap.
