Graduate student and part-time chef Neil Marshall only wants to go for an early morning run. Instead he witnesses the near-fatal shooting of legendary Houston private eye C.J. McDaniels, and he fears... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Twenty-eight years old graduate student Neil Marshall wants to be a poet. He is also a part time chef, but anyone who knows his background recognizes that his true talent lies in the field of investigation. Neil unco vered the identity of the person who killed his best friend in IF WISHES WERE HORSES. Now he is once again up to his neck in mayhem and murder when he innocently witnesses the drive-by shooting of Houston's most famous de tective, C.J. McDaniels. Neil rushes the wounded investigator to the hospital, saving his life, and becoming media's darling hero. The hitmen do not see Neil has a hero, but as an eyewitness that requires elimination. Several attempts fail. In spite of that and his attraction to the daughter of C.J., Neil is unable to walk away from the case bec ause his curiosity will not allow him to quit without finding answers. He needs to know who is behind the assassination attempt and needs to be there when the villains are identified and captured. Neil needs to remember t hat curiosity killed the cat and he has used up several of his nine lives in his latest pursuit. For a self-proclaimed poet, Neil likes to be in the center of the action. Tim Hemlin has penned another outstanding who-done-it filled with plenty of action, red herrings, and suitable suspects to satisfy even the harshest of critics. The dichotomy between the hero's dreams and his activiti es make for a fascinating glimpse into the human psyche that allows readers to feel comfortable with him. It will be fascinating to watch the protagonists grow in future books, but it is hoped that he retains that slightl y off-beat sardonic sense of humor that makes him so endearing.
