Cats "on assignment"

"Cats have traits most people only hope for." Even Dog People will fall for these felines. Anderson's latest anthology showcases a cast of four-leggeds sure to inspire and beguile. Be they snaggletooth toms or celebrity cats, each one's story embodies universal truth and a global purrr-spective. And there's so much to learn here! With a researcher's verve, a journalist's precision, and a contemplative's heart, Anderson teaches as well as entertains. Each story opens with a fetching photo-op and PURR-rayer and closes with musings that never wag a finger. Part Aesop, part Auntie Mame, part Ann Landers, Anderson caps each tale with brisk wisdom, gently applied. Often, you don't see it coming. Iditarod winner Libby Riddle's rap-like ode to her pet (a stray that charms fifty-seven sled dogs) preps you for machismo and mischief: "Danger was a cool cat; some say a fool cat, a mean, lean, break-all-the-rules cat." Anderson's take on the rebel will surprise and delight you. When nervous White House guests copy the president's table manners, all is well until they end up filling their saucers--rather than cups--with coffee, sugar, then cream, never suspecting he's about to feed the First Cat. Touching moments also emerge. Midnight, the resident nursing home cat, keeps vigil with the author's dying mother-in-law, rubbing her face against hands tightly clasped in farewell. Stowaways, runaways, giveaways--these are cats "on assignment," heaven-sent ambassadors for a patient, lovingly practical God. And with names like Bogey and Shambles, Cheesecake, Sinbad, and Gizmo, what's not to love? Savor this book with a furry friend. I double-dog dare ya.

Wonderful Cat Book
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
This is a wonderful little book for cat lovers everywhere, with liberal sprinkles of prayers and bible verses. Even though I'm not a religious person and never pray, as a contributor of a story to the book, I thoroughly enjoyed the lay-out, and the darling photos of all the adorable kittens and cats. There is an undeniable thread which will take readers on a spiritual journey through this book if they will allow it. And if not, it won't. They will enjoy it either way. I did. And I will definitely look for other books by this author.
