After my father died nearly two years ago I took to reading comforting books to help ease my deep pain. There were twenty books that I read at that time. My favorites were Dr. Kubler Ross' On Grief and Grieving: Finding the Meaning of Grief Through the Five Stages of Loss and 90 Minutes in Heaven By Don Piper. I would like to add THIS book as a third favorite. It is evident that the author has a real understanding of what a grieving person goes through the stages of grief, the need to pass through what WM Paul Young refers to as "The Great Sadness" in The Shack. Reading this book brought tears to my eyes. It is full of beautiful sayings, quotations from the Bible, poems and prayers. I really loved reading it and plan to keep it close to me in my times of need. The grief is never really over for those we love. It is because we miss them so much that we hurt. However reminding ourselves that they are with God now really helps. I would recommend not only to those grieving recent losses but those who still feel the pain only now in what is called "grief spurts" in bereavement groups.
