This area became a haven for desperados, murderers, highwaymen and especially, horse thieves. Good people were being victimized. The whole area became known as Thief Neck. Horses and cattle were taken here to change owners via theft. Men went here to disappear and hide from the law. Many people just disappeared, victims of crime, and many came here to end their lives, dying by murder or the long arm of the law.
