During the first eighteen years of his life, William Carter lived in a jewel of a small town called Plains - along with 750 other contented souls-ninety miles or so below the gnat-line in rural South Georgia. He was surrounded and raised by formidable southern women, hard-working southern men, and a cast of town folks who instilled within him the value of a good story, the unshakable belief that all being and ends with family, and the scandalous notion that Jesus has a sense of humor. Carter migrated north to Tennessee, where he married the prettiest girl in the world, began his blue-collar career riding shotgun on a garbage truck, helped raise two sons, became a suburban warrior, morphed into an old, retired guy, then began writing about it all and making himself laugh. He lives in middle Tennessee with Marlene - his wife of thirty-four years - and his sons, will and Dylan. Carter writes a column for the Williamson Herald. He also calls his Mama at least once a week. Book jacket.
