Stephen Cross has done a great favor to me by explaining a very complex subject in a succinct way. The author clearly has the command of the subject and has worked at it over the years, including learning Sanskrit. Anyone who has left India like myself and has a good understanding of the western ways and a general idea of Hinduism. But would like to learn more about Hinduism, explained from a western point of view. To be able to explain to their own children, why do Hindus worship figures that have eight arms and who is Shiva anyway. This is the book for you. I would keep a dictionary handy though as the author uses some big words. Stephen Cross has done a greater good than he probably realises by writing this book and I highly recommend it.
