Reading this book is an ego trip for WASPS. We have been reared for generations on the virtues this book attempts to condemn. The authors explain how the nation was founded by WASPS with an unflagging code of virtues including but not limited to: self-suffiency, honesty, graciousness, modesty, courage, humility, responsibility. loyalty, self-discipline, morality, frugality, resourcefulness, hard work, perserverance..etc. (page 45 hardback) and that WASPS condemnation of emotionality, grandiosity, bad manners, extravagance, overt ambition, overt sexuality, opportunism, selfishness, cowardice, ostentation, vulgarity, vanity, losing contral, disloyalty, blaming otherss, irresponsibility with money, cruelty to anyone in subservience, cruelty to animals and being unhygenic as character defects (also on page 45) present a handicap to other ethnicities. The tone of the book is a slap in the face to other ethnicies in that it suggests they have no intrinsic values and must "mimic" WASPNESS to achieve the American Dream. It is essentially 'whiney' and it's not good form to whine. However, as the non-WASP authors appear to be excessively emotional about the subject, I am prepared to graciously overlook it.
