One day, while scrolling through Facebook, I took notice of some figures posted in an action figure group. As a military historian and a fan of scale representations of military history and uniforms, I was immediately captivated by the quality of the work, attention to detail, and historical accuracy that Reno Belgrano puts into the figures he creates. Using both commercial figures he purchases and items he himself creates, each figure is transformed into a unique rendering of a German Fallschirmjäger (paratrooper), Latvian Auxilliary or a Free French commando, often creating the figure for a specific unit and time/place of battle. Each head sculpt is unique, each weapon and uniform weathered and so dirty that you can almost smell the odor of cordite. Then the figure is photographed in the context of a background he also creates. I became an instant fan. To say his work is museum quality is not an overstatement. Although his work covers a wide period of history, this hopefully first volume of his work focuses on the Second World War and includes soldiers often overlooked by commercial company's offering of military figures. His unfailing dedication to accuracy is both notable and commendable. Each creation is one of a kind and this first volume collects together only a small sample of his extraordinary renditions. His work speaks for itself. Here's hoping you are as impressed with his work as I am.
