Those colossal lies about "evil" giants are all just a gigantic misunderstanding. You've heard all the stories of mean and bloodthirsty giants: David and Goliath, Jack and the Beanstalk, Gilgamesh.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Walter The Giant Story Teller finds his self stranded on an island after a shipwreck. The people that live on the island know all about giants and their reputation of being rough and mean. The people of the island tie him up and put him on trial. He must convince the people that there are really good giants in the world and that he is one of them. I enjoy the great illustrations. Yes. This would be a great book to read to students during a unit on fractured fairy tales.
A Gigantically Delightful Book!

If your school has not been lucky enough to have Walter the Giant Storyteller come and visit, you better get cracking. He's especially effective with middle schoolers! In this oversize volume, he staunchly defends the giants whose stories have been twisted, reputations maligned, lives ruined. It would be a great intro to a language arts unit on fractured fairy tales, and getting kids writing their own versions of stories. There is not one boring page in the whole book! You could even use this with high school kids to get them writing tall tales and rewriting myths from various points of view. And I must mention--there's a map front and back! The illustrations are visual derivations of the work of Ardizzone, Goscinny and Uderzo, Sendak, Herge and others. Great reading for all sizes of young people!
