From the Foreword "Many years ago, when I first began teaching a course called History of American journalism, I became convinced that I wanted my students to have more than a standard textbook in the course. So I assempbled a huge corollary reading list, and I had my students chasing books all over the campus and waiting in line in the reserve library.
