This is a poetic novel, rich with imagery and lyricism. The story is told primarily from the eyes of a twelve year-old. The novel relates, in a somewhat dreamy and stark fashion, the results of a man's deciding to marry his son's ex-wife. The novel focuses on family and feelings, on Catholicism and guilt of sin and retribution, on what was, what is, what could or will be as it is intertwined in our inevitable link with others around us.
