Scary stories entice reluctant reader

These stories compel you to read them through suspense and morbid detail. Although they can be a bit scary for the younger crowd, they really enticed my 9-year-old son, who is a reluctant reader, into finishing the whole book. Each story is laid out in a format that makes reading easy, and many compelling illustrations help as well. Additionally, the descriptive language was colorful and, I think, helped my son become familiar with some new vocabulary. I would really recommend this book to read with your child, but with a warning that they are not for the easily scared. These are stories that have been around for a long time, re-told in a masterful way by Mike Stocks. The illustrations are equal to the text, both interesting and 'horror-filled.'
