This is an important read for anyone dealing with an eating disorder: the individual, the family or friends. Ms. Lipton conveys a touching portrayal of the struggles involved with trying to overcome... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I recently saw the author on "Geraldo at Large" and was capitvated by her honesty and courage. She discussed her own battle with anorexia and her reasons for writing the book. As Ms. Lipton said, she wanted to give a voice to the inner thoughts torturing an anorexic as he/she lives with this disorder. Additionally, Ms. Lipton stated she wanted to let people know that an eating disorder can be overcome. I, then, bought the book, was mesmerized reading it and haven't stopped thinking about it. As a high school teacher I have seen students battling eating disorders and can only wish I had had this book so as to have a better understanding of what they were feeling and possibly been able to help in some way. At least now I have the knowledge and believe I can offer some comfort and direction. I urge all parents to get yourselves a copy of this book. It may make all the difference.
Captivating

I could not put the book down and found myself completely in the character's head. I thought she must have written it with me in mind. I wonder if she even is writing about my school! I'm so thankful to have this book. I'm debating whether or not to give it to my parents... but I keep thinking.... not yet.
Startling journey into the mind of an anorexic

This book takes the reader inside the mind of a young woman with an eating disorder. The author does an excellent job of depicting the world from this vantage point, showing how distorted and disturbing day to day life can be. At the onset of the story the main character is just beginning her slide into anorexia. Seeing this from the inside out is both enlightening and sobering. The story is set in Manhattan. While the author captures the intensity and pace of life in New York, it is easy to imagine this story happening anywhere as this is a pervasive problem in our culture. As a parent of a teen, I would strongly recommend this book to other parents of preteens or teens as a unique opportunithy to recognize a problem before it takes hold. I enjoyed the author's writing style and thought the story moved at a good pace.
