Fascinating

I have spent the last 17 years of my career helping struggling students (1000s of them) as an owner/operator of a national tutoring franchise. Historically, we would help kids by brushing up on their reading and math skills. We had a good program, but it now seems like we were attacking the symptoms, not the underlying causes. I wish I had known about this option years ago. Especially for kids who have tried other options for more than 30-60 days, and not seen the results parents were hoping for. Each student is unique in their own way, of course. I would recommend that parents research all their options carefully, but this is one program that warrants a long look.

This book finally gives insight to why an individual might struggle with learning! For my family, we knew a struggle existed and others confirmed the struggle but until now there's never been a clear explanation of why there is difficulty! Dr. Gibson's book gives a clear picture of what the root cause of the problem might be and even better, ways to overcome and retrain the brain to make learning easier and more efficient! While the title of the book refers to "Applying New Brain Science to Wake Up the Smart in your Child" this book would benefit not only parents, but even adults interested in learning more about how our brains really work and improving their own skills!

The two best things I liked about this book were: 1) the summaries at the end of each chapter and 2) the quotes. I found the book to be VERY informative but written on a level that the average person could understand. It gave excellent information, examples, statistics and testimonials that encougage parents, teachers, and others to get more information about cognitive skills and training. I would HIGHLY recommend this book !!!!!
