For a military writer, there are two must-have books: The Uniformed Services Almanac and the Federal Employees Almanac.Let's say you're writing a nonfiction book proposal for a military guide that will (eventually) be read by military members or federal employees. In your proposal, you might state, "There are 3.2 gazillion civilian federal employees and 1.2 gazillion U.S. military members that would be interested in (the content of your proposed book)." And you would want to quote accurate statistics to support your claim. The Active/Reserve Personnel Strength and Federal Civilian Employment data in these two almanacs are obtained from official sources within U.S. Federal Personnel Management offices, and the Pentagon, which means the two almanacs contain the most current, accurate, and readily-available information on the market. Great stuff for demonstrating to an editor that you've done the required homework to write a nonfiction book or guide.Tally Shooter Writers Group
