Not only has Hal Harris never been particularly close to his brother Guy -in fact, he hasn't seen him in years. So when he gets a phone call from Guy, pleading with him to meet him in Vegas, Hal's got a bad feeling ... But he never imagines his whole life is about to change when professional gambler Guy takes poker novice Hal into the bright lights of a big city. And when Guy is killed right before Hal's eyes, he's thrown headlong into Guy's high-adrenaline world, meeting the people he knew and wronged as he takes his brother's place in a multi-million poker tournament in hopes of finding his killer. With just one chance and zero luck on his side, Hal's got to pull off the impossible as he fights his way through a neon-soaked city where lying is a skill to die for.
I really enjoyed this book. A great mystery to read on vacation. Vorhaus' writing is witty and carries you from scene to scene. His knowledge of poker is well-utilized as the main character gets drawn into the world of Las Vegas. If you don't care about poker, you might find too much of it in the book, but if you have even a passing interest in it -- like if you 've watched some tournaments on TV -- then it's great! I felt like I'd had a tutorial on poker strategy, while enjoying the mystery story.
