This is the story of Susan and Eric Hiscocks last voyage in the steel ketch Wanderer IV from their home in New Zealand to the west coast of Canada. On their return, they decided to replace the Wanderer IV with a smaller wooden sloop-rigged yacht. The maiden voyage of Wanderer V is not a tale of idyllic sailing.
I have just started reading Eric Hissock's books. This is the second of his I'm reading as most are out of print it seems. I envy him as he lived in a better time than we do now. A slower time, a less crowded time. He and his wife Susan had a good life of travel and in their books, they document these travels. This book was written in the early 80's and i assume probably his last?! I dunno, but it's good and in the same vein as books by Hal Roth (my favourite) and Lin and Larry Pardey (also right up there).
