Allie Baker longs for adventure and finds it in Key West. Having lived her entire life in South Dakota farming country, she unexpectedly is provided the opportunity to work and live at Florida's southernmost point. Jumping at the chance, she embraces the experience; new sights, new smells, colorful people, sunshine and tropical breezes. When she starts dating Michael, she feels that her life is finally coming together. Handsome and successful, Michael is a lawyer and part owner of a boat charter. The one problem with Michael is that he tends to break more dates than he keeps. Frustrated, Allie considers breaking things off with him; but just as she begins to consider it, she meets Zack. Zack Cavenagh, quiet and unassuming; there's something about him that pulls Allie in. They had a chance encounter and Allie finds herself confiding in him. Embarrassed, she convinces herself she'll never see him again, but a few days later he rescues her from a mugging. She's attracted to him and yet she knows nothing about him and wonders at the secrets he is keeping. Allie struggles with her feelings. Michael is determined to do whatever it takes to keep her at his side; he is intent on building a future for them. At the same time, she's torn with the desire to know Zack better. She feels that he has some feeling for her, and yet he insists on keeping her at arm's length and protecting his secrets. It is only when she travels to Dry Tortuga island that Allie discovers several unexpected and shocking truths about each of the men. When the situation heats up and the controversy between Michael and Zack takes an unexpected turn, Zack finds himself with blood on his hands. Suspected of murder, the evidence leads directly to his door. Allie, desperate to believe in him, finds her faith shaken as bodies continue to turn up and she finds her life is in danger. Key West was her dream. A beautiful city, full of sunshine and promise; but beneath the surface, mystery, murder, and mayhem are soon to wreak havoc. Just as Allie finds what she's been looking for her entire life, a very real danger surfaces and threatens not only her happiness, but her very existence.
