Business travel - heaven help those who always must
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
Very funny book about traveling on business. Sometimes cutting sarcasm, sometimes really funny, this book tells it how it really is. Always in a hurry, always rushing to meetings, always in a foreign country trying to make deals and accomplish the often impossible - and succeeding. Anyone who thinks that traveling as part of a job is great fun should read this book.
A delightful update on the author's first book

Peter Biddlecombe has carved out a niche writing silly, amusing travel essays about his business travels, seasoned with the occasional profound observation of why some countries are hives of prosperity while others are starving. He is not among the politically correct -- brace yourself for mother-in-law jokes and snide remarks about local customs. But at his best, he's amusing and informative. At his worst, he's just obnoxious. This volume has a distinct Franco-African theme, which seems to be Biddlecombe's area of greatest expertise, and where he veers away from frivolity and comes nearest to being profound. The book is in some respects an update of his first volume, 'French Lessons in Africa.' Of 19 essays, five are from francophone Africa, four are from southeast Asia, three from South America, and a sprinkling of others to round out the book.
An interesting and funny narrative, though rather conceited

The book reads very well, with the author using an easy style. The situations are all real and show the fun one can have travelling. I felt many of the observations and quips about characters and events were too ethno-centric (Biddlecome is British) and conceited, despite the authors extensive travels. Overall, a great book to read, and very enjoyable.
