Winner of two Teacher Choice Awards and a Mom's Choice Award, the We Both Read series now has over 100 titles and 6 million copies in print! This unique series features a shared-reading format designed to invite parents and children to take turns reading aloud. With 6 different reading levels, these innovative books for reading together offer an easy way for parents to support beginning and struggling readers. Too Many Cats: Suzu has asked for a white cat for her birthday. Now, on the night before her birthday, she begins to find cats all over the house - most of them in very unusual colors! Suzu loves cats, but now she has too many! Focusing on reading the names for colors and the numbers from one to ten, this Level PK-K book is designed for the child who is just being introduced to reading.
I absolutely love the "We Both Read" series of books. If you haven't seen these before, each 2 page layout has smaller more complex text on the left page for the adult to read and then on the right page, there are larger text, easy to read sentences for your child to read. There is a symbol on each page to indicate whether grown up or child should read. The books are grouped in to reading levels. Too Many Cats is reading level K, which has very basic site words and simple easy to sound out words. This story is about a girl who wishes for a pet cat and keeps finding new cats popping up everywhere she turns. The children's pages give basic color and number recognition practice... for example, a picture of a white cat followed by the text "one white cat". It's a cute story, easy to follow, colorful illustrations... great beginning reading! We started this book when my son was 4. He did great with sounding out words, but would get frustrated if he had to give up any story time to practice reading. This was a great compromise. We did 2 stories per night. We would read one book together, and then I would read the usual bedtime story books afterwards as a reward. Now that he's 5, we've moved on to level 1/ level 2 reading level, but still enjoy the "We Both Read" series.

As a special services director at a small Catholic school, I am always looking for books that give students success in reading. This series has been a favorite for myself and the teachers on staff. Works really well both at school and home.

This is the third book my daughter and I have read from the We Both Read series. This particular book is helping her learn her number words and gives us something fun to read together. She has requested that we purchase more books from the We Both Read series and they are on their way. She is waiting somewhat impatiently for them to arrive. I'd buy it again.
A recommended shared reading experience

Too Many Cats is the newest engaging title in the "We Both Read" series from Treasure Bay. Written and designed by Sindy McKay to promote shared reading by parents and children, each two-page spread features an intermediate-reading level narration on the left and a simpler, "easy-reader" read-aloud line on the right for little ones. The engaging, tale featuring the whimsically illustrations of Meredith Johnson, Too Many Cats is the tale of a young girl or starts finding way too many cats in her house is amusingly told, and young people just beginning to read and sharing the book with parents can chime in with simple lines like "...a red cat." "Three cats!" "Four cats?" "...a yellow cat." A recommended shared reading experience with kids of kindergarten age.
