Set in the north-west of Australia in 1957, the story concerns a Christian missionary who has lost his faith. This edition presents the revised version that Stow produced in 1981. Also includes Stow's introduction to the revised edition, dated 1991, and a new foreword by Anthony J. Hassall, author of a critical study of Stow's literature, 'Strange Country'.
