She moved to Vermont in 1969 with her husband and two young sons. While living on Hollister Hill, in Marshfield, she worked as an elementary-school librarian in Barre. She conducted oral histories of her neighbors in 1973-1975, which were published as Here On This Hill in 1991 by the Vermont Folklife Center. After retiring in 2000, she interviewed her neighbors again in 2003-2013. To My Rememberin' is a result of this second series of conversations with her neighbors. In 2015 she left Vermont to be near her sons and families in the Bay Area of California.
