This first novel by Kenneth Miller is one of the best horror novels I have read in many years. Set in a grim, ravaged landscape of the 17th Century, when every man, woman, and child is threatened by the infamous grip of the Black Death, a spark of hope emerges from a quiet little town called Manasseh, that may very well hold the key to the cure for the retched disease. A brave young man named Christian is set out by the church on a religious crusade to find the cure, or die trying. The secrets that are hidden there in that forgotten town may either save his faith, bringing him closer to God, or damn his soul forever. You see, Christian must make a choice, a choice against everything he believes in, against something he found had invaded his thoughts long ago.
