Forty years later, America is still feeling the aftershocks of that earth-shaking year, 1968. It was a time when history seemed to accelerate, and the nation hurtled, full speed, into chaos and division. Two symbols of hope, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. , Were assassinated. Lyndon B. Johnson, beaten by the war in Vietnam--where 450,000 young Americans fought for their lives in the jungle--declared he would not run for the presidency again. Rioters battled police in Chicago, while rockers and hippies shook, rattled and rolled the culture. The year ended on a final note of blessing, when three U.S. Astronauts, the first men to orbit the moon, read from the book of Genesis on Christmas Eve. Join TIME - and eyewitnesses who recall their experiences in those feverish days - to relive the highs and lows, the joys and tragedies, and the enduring consequences of that remarkable year.
This is an amazing look at 1968 with quotes, pictures, articles and interveiws. The photo's, many awardwinning, help me as a young person who did not experience the year to see and feel some of the tensions. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in history in general or more specifically American history in the 1960's

They say if you remember the 60's, you weren't really there. Well, if you can't remember or you never really knew the real meaning of everything that went on in 1968, score a copy of this magnificent book that tells the story and shows the pictures of what happened in '68 -- a year of earthshaking events in politics, war and popular culture. There's great coverage here of everything from the Tet Offensive to Laugh In and The Fab Four, in a manner that only Time can offer. Absolutely great collector's item.
