Tiger Boogie: A Town, a Team, a Love Story

Tiger Boogie is about passion, drive, and a small town's rally around its team. The book covers some early history, delving a bit into small town football in the 1940s, but places it focus on the 25-year period from 1960 to 1985, when the Conroe Tigers' football team won 213 games. It wasn't always this good. The team struggled for much of the 1950s before Chuck York, a stern man with a military background, took over as head coach in 1960. He promptly turned a sour loser into a sweet winner. With his guidance, and that of the coaches that followed him, the Tigers continued to dazzle both fans and foes with repeated district titles. By the mid-1980s, the Tigers cruised to a 31-7 record over three seasons, including back-to-back appearances in the quarterfinals, but the frenzy that once drove an entire two crazy slowly disappeared, and the team has not been able to recapture that drive. Tiger Boogie is Kevin Taylor's salute to the coaches, the players, and the supporters of the Conroe Tigers football team.
