In this bright and breezy retelling of the Brothers Grimm storytime favorite, the three Billygoats Gruff find themselves yearning for the delectable treats on the other side of their island. However, to get there, they first must cross a bridge...a bridge guarded by Calypso Joe, the self-proclaimed "meanest troll dis part of de island." Joe demands a toll from the goats, warning of a "big problem" if it isn?t paid. But Joe soon learns that he?s the one with the "big problem" -- in the form of a goat twice his size.Told in a lilting Caribbean dialect so lush, you can practically feel the warm island breezes.
We have been taking this book out of the library for over a year now. I will read it to my five year old, take it back and in a while he will ask to get it out again. It is just such fun. The 'bad' guy learns his lesson, a very satisfying story to a little one.

This book is simple amazing! It appeals even to those who have out grown picture books. My friend and i read it on my front porch steps and we were in stitches. This book teaches a good value: That manners are key. I recomend it to anyone who is a fan of the billy goats gruff story!

This is a fun variation on a classic tale. The three billygoats gruff try to cross the island but encounter a mean Joe - Calypso Joe! The dialect in the story is great and adds so much flavor to the book. Joe learns manners at the end - a treat for any picture book reader! Our 3yr old loves it!
