People feel at home in Belle Haven, and in many ways it is like any other small town, with a caf? where regulars come for the fresh cinnamon rolls and to talk about the weather, or one another, often... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Contrary to an earlier reader's opinion, this book is in no way sexist or unbalanced. It is superbly written and is filled with three dimensional people (with one or two minor exceptions). Although romantic in theme this is far more than a romance written by gifted author. It will make a very interesting chick flick should it hit the big screen.

I received this book as a birthday present, and what a gift it was! Those Who Favor Fire grabs the reader's attention and holds it until the very end, which comes all too soon! This expertly-woven tale is about a small Pennsylvannia town, the coal fire that rages beneath it, and how its inhabitants deal with their fears. Interesting and well-developed characters, short chapters, and great imagery make it a very fast read. I hope we'll again meet Rachel, Joe and those memorable inhabitants of Belle Haven whom we've come to know so well. Thank you, Lauren, for such a wonderful first novel. I'm looking forward to your next.
Memorable Epic

Wolk's beautifully evoked fiery town stays in my mind even now, a good six months after the reading. The tale weaves disparate lives into a beautiful, grabbing patchwork. It was a surprise that I slipped right into. The images of those who favor fire still stick with me, and their voices are still in my ears. The characters were real, palpable.
Powerful, loving characters

These unusual characters are woven together in a charming, unforgettable way. I enjoyed every minute of this book even though I did get impatient with the main characters at times. The language used was so descriptive...not only of the western PA area but of the feelings and uniqueness of the characters. I hated to finish it!
There's no place like home!

A young girl in college suffers a tragedy and decides to return to her home town to resume her life. A young man learns a terrible family secret and leaves town to be on his own. They both cross paths in Belle Haven. The people of the town embrace them, but the town itself may not be safe. They might lose the only place where they will feel secure because of underground fires which put the town in real danger. This book reminds you that you will always be deeply tied to the place where you grew up and to your family no matter what trauma you endure. It deals with hometown people, quaint places and relationships. I read a lot of contemporary fiction. Those Who Favor Fire is one of the best books I have read in a while!
