Anyone with an interest in the Lord's Supper or Eucharist should buy and read this. There is a lot of history. Much of the book is spent with blow-by-blow notes on the Marburg Colloquy (debate between Luther and Zwingli on the Lord's Supper) from a couple of perspectives. An explanation of close communion that surpasses all others is to be found in this book (For Luther, it is the Gospel we eat, but for the Reformed an ordinance we observe. That mixes Gospel and Law as if grace is not the means of salvation, but works are.) It is not a fast read, but is worth the time. There is nothing like it.
