How can we truly stand on the gospel of Christ? What does it mean for us personally to receive healing from the wounded hands of Jesus? Moreover, how might our faith play out in our church and our... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book, the Archbishop of Canterbury's Lent Book for 2005, is divided into chapters which focus on the wounds of Jesus - back, feet, hands, side, head and heart - and each chapter can be broken down into smaller sections to work through over Lent. Canon Dr Christina Baxter weaves prayers and litanies throughout the book to focus the mind of the reader and to encourage meditation on the themes and there are questions and ideas at the end of each chapter for group or individual study. The chapters look at the historical background to the world in which Jesus lived - for example, the chapter on feet discusses foot washing and what it meant in Jesus' time. But the book is not purely a historical discussion of the agonies Jesus suffered, it also encourages the reader to consider what they can do in the modern world to carry out Jesus' commission to live as a true follower of Christ, to truly carry their own cross. An excellently-written book which is thought-provoking and challenging.
