I owned this book for years and finally took it off the shelf to read and what an unexpected pleasure! This is the story of a young newly-wed who is on trial for the murder of her husband. The book begins with her first date and ends with her trial verdict. The story is told from the viewpoints of the first wife of the deceased, the "widow", a male and female who were close friends of the "widow" and her husband, the "widow's attorney", and briefly the Judge. I am from NC and my mother's family hails from Asheville in the Appalachian Mountains where this story is set. To me The Widow's Trial captures the spirit of that locale in both dialogue and viewpoint of those who live there.
