This is a novel of suspense by ever-popular Mignon Warner. The book jacket concisely sums up the main ideas: Mrs. Charles, with years of expertise in occult interpretation, knows that certain Tarot cards do not predict death. Yet within hours the girl standing on her porch, seeking help, is dead, found face-down in tidewater with a Tarot card tucked inside her jacket. Later, Mrs. Charles learns from her friend, a former detective, that this is not the first death in her neighborhood in recent months, nor is it to be the last. Using her knowledge of the Tarot, coupled with sleuthing instinct, Mrs. Charles sets out to unveil the Tarot Murderer before he claims another victim. But she finds herself pitted against the forces of Amery Walters, a prominent race horse owner with a guilty conscience; a group of nursing students with some not-so-pretty jealousies; and Rupert Roxeth, a rival clairvoyant who seems more anxious to stop Mrs. Charles than the killer. Playing a lone hand and pitting her wits against those of a diabolical villain, Mrs. Charles risks her own life to unmask the Tarot Murderer.
