A well-told story of the most significant day in U. S. history of the twentieth century

This book is really about the Japanese surprise attack at Pearl Harbor in 1941. There is significant mention about Japanese Admiral Yamamoto and his plans and misgivings about declaring war against the United States. Other than that, the main character is Tony Muncie, a crewman aboard the U. S. S. Arizona. When the ship explodes, he is thrown off the deck into the water and he manages to swim to shore. The remainder of the book is about the rescue efforts when the attack was over and the construction of the memorial to the Arizona. Pearl Harbor was the greatest military defeat in the history of the United States, yet it was a victory. By uniting the country in a war effort, it galvanized the people of the United States into an effort that guaranteed victory. This book describes that momentous day when isolationism died along with over 2000 Americans. It is a well-told story of the most significant day of the twentieth century in American history.
