Dear Reader, Like the rose in the haunting tale of "Beauty and the Beast," a silver rose on a charm bracelet brings together a beautiful young woman and a battle-scarred lord.... In my story, Ariel... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I loved the book. It got bad reviews, but I thought it was very touching. The characters were flawed but we're all flawed.
A memorable, moving, and beautifully written novel.

This novel traces relationships between and among members of disparate communities who are propelled into unexpected contact with each other by the exigencies of war -- WWII, Berlin. All sorts of basic human relationships--father/daughter, lovers, friends--are put to the test by the evils of the evil, opportunistic, or just plain unthinking perpetrators of and collaborators in Hitler's madness. And Kaufelt takes us into many levels of society, from domestic life to theatrical life, from restaurants to prisons, from the commercial to the juridical, so readers can watch in horror as options disappear: terror, defiance, courage, and passion are all part of the emotional mix. Some of the scenes in this book are among the most memorable I have ever read.
No "I love you"?

Okay, I really hate "romance book cliches" but really, a romance novel in which neither of the characters admits their love to each other!? Come on!!
Very good read

A great book (my first by Feather). She shaped the story well and the imagery. However, the ending was a bit abrupt, and I always feel unsatisfied when the 2 main characters never verbally say "I love you" to one another. Assuming that they do is not enough for me.
