Thirty years ago, who would have envisioned a former president of the Soviet Union eloquently invoking JFK, William Faulkner, and Native American wisdom in the service of a new, global civilization... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is a very short book,of only 81 pages. It is really more of an essay than a book;but it gives as clear a description of what this Great World Leader sees as what the people of the world must do if there is any long-term hope for civilization. As you read this book ,you will be reminded of several events .The one thing that immediately came to mind to me was the funeral of President Ronald Reagan with Gorbachev in attendance.Unlike the scene when Khruchev addressed the United Nations and pontificated that "We Will Bury You";the thought that emanated from Gorbechev was,You were a good man,and together we did our best;now it's in other's hands. Years before when President Reagan stood before the Berlin Wall and said;"President Gorbachev,Bring down this wall",Gorbachev realized the need for a change of direction. He believed he could trust Reagan and though it required great strength and wisdom, changed The Soviet Union's failed direction of opression and Communism to a course of fredom and democracy. It must be a great disappointment to him today,in watching the world's nations not working together to confront the terrorism that is now taking place ,all in the name of "religion".
