Happy Days? Absolutely!

I have never written a review before, but I felt the above review begged for a response - since I felt it was totally unfair and relatively accurate at the same time. The scathing review would be warranted if "50's" purported to be a history book. But it does not. This is a paean to the 50's, profusely illustrated and paying homage to those things so many of us remember fondly... Brylcreem and James Dean; Burmashave signs and the Lennon Sisters; bobby sox, hot rods, sock hops and Little Richard; I Like Ike, the first McDonald's and crew cuts. In short, this is a chance to relive the fun parts of your childhood (or your Mom & Dad's) without concern about war, famine and pestilence. Rating the book based on the purpose for which it was written, I give it a hearty five out of five.
