Young Sarah is no ordinary girl. She's been diagnosed as schizophrenic and locked away in a children's psychiatric ward. But that's not what makes her special. She also has a very strange--and... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I picked this up without high expectations. Leisure Press isn't known for selecting quality writers. I've read a handful of their authors in different genres and the quality is more often miss than hit. Nate Kenyon's writing is definitely a cut above the usual Leisure fare. It's a tight 300 pages, not a lot of extraneous padding, the characters are mature and believable, the plot was exciting and believable as well, and the author did not dumb down his writing as is so prevalent in today's genres. The story reminded me at various times of Carrie, Firestarter, The Fury, The Omen and The Exorcist, and even the film The Ring...and yet still mananged to present something original and exciting. The author clearly did his homework as evident in the way he presents background information on schizophrenia and research into psionic abilities. All told, this was one of the few books I have read in the past year that was worth my hard earned eight bucks! It's been a long time since I've been excited to "discover" a new author, but Nate Kenyon is the one. I look forward to following a long career!

Prepare to be REACHED!

Okay, I'm a Clancy fan, right? If a book doesn't hold up to Clancy's method of MAKING you keep reading, then I put it down. No such problem here. I read Nate's first book BLOODSTONE in a day and wanted more, even though his work is not in my usual reading genre. THE REACH is even better. Terrific characterizations are becoming this author's stock and trade. Prepare to be REACHED, people! JFB Dec08
Great second novel from Kenyon!!!!!

Just finished the ARC I was fortunate to receive, and this was a nice departure from his excellent debut, Bloodstone. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in his young career, and at 276 pages, this book fairly zips along. The main characters are well drawn, and the inevitable conclusion is excellent and sets the stage for a possible sequel. Great action scenes, and a strong protagonist make for a great book. 4 1/2 out of 5 stars. Craig

I absolutely Loved this book. The details were extremly vivid. I was able to actually form images in my head as I was reading the book and envision the events as they were unfolding. The Characters were likable and believable, you actually start to form a bond with Sara and feel sorry for her. You can also feel and relate to the stress building within Jess because of the need to help Sara. I highly recommend this book, I could not put it down. It would make an Excellent Movie, I rate it right up there with Stephen King's Firestarter
