An absolute must to have on your desk. Both dictionary and thesaurus, it comes in very handy every single day. The only problem is the binding. Pages tend to go their own way after awhile. Nevertheless, even with the loose pages, I haven't replaced my copy.
Linguistic marvel

I found this pocket dictionary a remarkable synonoym guide, and given its small size, it can effortlessly be carried in a backpack to and from school, e.g. during an exam. This was one of my ultimately most successful purchases.
Well, what did you expect--it's an Oxford!

Not surprisingly, I found this dictionary to have everything I needed--and more! The book is larger than I expected, but then I should have known that "compact" means something different for Oxford than it does for other dictionary publishers (some of whom publish dictionaries with the type so small, I can hardly read them). Oxford uses a typeset with lots of white space which, of course, makes it much easier to read. In addition to the words, the tutorial on "Effective Writing for College and Career" makes this dictionary one that professors can use to prepare students for the rigors of college and business writing. All in all, if you want a compact (by Oxford standards) dictionary of the highest quality, get this edition. You can't lose!
