Story was amazing, romance-not so much

The plot of this is crazy amazing to me! But in all honesty I liked Bryony's story more than the romance. So no, I do not personally think that this is the perfect rom-com. I actually have a problem with the romance parts of this book. But I can't say much because of spoilers. Bryony's character development was the best for me. I love her character, I love her job(s) and her passions. She's actually very relatable and you just want to be her friend. You just keep rooting for her until the very end. The flow of the story is amazing too! I loved the all the directions where this book took us. All the random, funny, cringe, and sad details were all I'm here for. This audiobook was fantastic. I listened to other audiobooks by this narrator and I just loved all the voices she did for the characters. She gave a richness to the characters that I truly loved.

"I wanted to live in his nothings and him to live in mine." Melissa Ferguson has a special touch in creating lovable Millennials with heart and wit as her main characters. Bryony is no exception. Her first person voice is honest, warm, heartfelt, passionate, and funny. The entire book is from her perspective so we meet Jack only through her thoughts and interactions. Jack is a layered hero - a charmer to the core driven by success and money but with substance, loyalty, and deep feelings when those layers are uncovered. Their banter is wonderful and I really enjoyed watching their relationship blossom from enemies to friends to more. The complex sphere of publishing is incredibly fascinating and I learned quite a bit through Jack's expertise. The work that Bryony does teaching English as Second Language holds a special place in my heart and I loved delving into that world. The romance is subtle but the outright laughs are not.
