Great book for improving writing skills. Answers to all you writing stylebook questions. Good MLA guide and other style guides. Tabs are the best for finding what you need quick.

Very Helpful Shortcut!

I had the privilege of taking Dr. Faigley's Computers & Writing course at the University of Texas. This book is great if you get frustrated with other MLA handbooks. I was tired of muddling through typical MLA handbooks and never being sure if I was in the right section. This handbook is easy to use and gets you quickly to the right section. It is particularly helpful with internet composition/citation!

Double plus good

When I went through school all we had were drills and more drills. My participle was dangling all the time. By the time I got to college we branched out with such things as "Aims of discourse" and broke free of trying to force U.S. English into old Latin. Infinitives were made to be split. But nothing in me formal education as prepared me for this animal. Yep now we can look at writing in a new way. The first chapter gives it away "Composing in a Visual Era" I looked at both the hardback and paperback version. I found the paperback to be too unwieldy. I tested the book in places where I know the information and it was confirmed. So I feel comfortable learning the new information. The book is more geared to research and documentation from the web vs. my trusty dusty library. Even if you are a professional there are plenty of eye openers in this book. I wish I had stumbled upon it earlier. Oh well better late than never (cliché time)

Brief yet informative

When I was first told that this book was required for my college English class, I thought that because of the title, the cover, and the spiral binding, this book would be another one of those dull textbooks. I definitely thought wrong. Inside this book, you will discover a world of information along with color photographs, real life examples of how writing is important, and the most up-to-date MLA information including proper citation methods, proper essay formats, proper punctuation, and proper syntax. Now that I am out of that first semester of English, I still view this book as valuable reference material due to it's comprehensive information on today's modern writing techniques. If you enjoy both reading and writing, I would strongly encourage you to purchase this book.
